If you want to run a crowdfunding campaign for a movie, here a couple of Kickstarter reward ideas that can help you to get pledges coming in:
A PDF of the shooting script
This is a reward level that’s very easy to deliver – you already have it. It’s also compelling, because people who care enough about your movie project to back it on Kickstarter will be interested to see the script. (Note: don’t deliver the script before the movie is released).
Examples:
- Veronica Mars
“You’ll be sent a pdf of the shooting script on the day of the movie’s release. Read it or remain unspoiled, the choice is yours. Additionally, you will receive regular updates and behind-the-scenes scoop throughout the fundraising and movie making process.”
8423 backers, paying $10 = $84,230
Production Diary
This takes a bit of work to produce, but it’s a great way to make backers more engaged, and turn a potential movie watcher into a real fan.
Examples:
- Zach Braff
“PRODUCTION DIARY// You’re now a part of this movie making club, and I want to show you the process, from start to finish. Each week throughout this summer’s shoot you will receive my Production Diary. This will include a video memo from me (with cameos from the cast and crew) detailing the process of making the movie. You’ll also get casting and production news first, before the Hollywood trades. And, I’ll email you a PDF of the “WISH I WAS HERE” screenplay right before the movie premieres.”
9133 backers, paying $10 = $91,330
Behind-The-Scenes
A little bit similar to a production diary, but easier to do, because it’s just sharing stuff that you already have anyway.
Example:
- Anomalisa
“Behind the Scenes Exclusives! A downloadable set of Anomalisa Character Designs and Artwork from the film, plus all of the above.”
812 backers paying $25 = $20,300
“From Script to Screen! A set of Anomalisa storyboards from a scene in the film signed by the director and all of the above.”
215 backers paying $75 = $16,125
Exclusive, Kickstrater-Backers only shirt
Not the most creative perk, but some people will want that.
Examples:
- Veronica Mars
“You will be sent a limited-edition “Veronica Mars – The Movie” T-shirt available only to Kickstarter backers. We’re working on the design now. We’ll post it as soon as it’s ready. In addition, you’ll be sent the pdf of the shooting script. Plus, you will receive regular updates and behind-the-scenes scoop throughout the fundraising and movie making process. Available to US, Canada, Australia/New Zealand, Mexico, Brazil, and Select EU countries (Now including Norway and Switzerland! See Project Description for full list)”
11509 backers, paying $25 each = $287,725
- Zach Braff
WISH I WAS HERE TEE SHIRT// I’m designing a shirt just for our backers. I promise you, these won’t just be your run of the mill giveaway tee shirts, these tees will be soft as a kitten taint
9952 backers, paying $40 = $398,080
Digital Download
This will probably one of the most popular reward levels of your Kickstarter movie project.
Examples:
- Anomalisa
“BY POPULAR DEMAND! A digital download of Anomalisa once the film has been distributed!”
2297 backers, paying $20 each = $45,940
- Veronica Mars
“You will receive a digital version of the movie within a few days of the movie’s theatrical debut, plus the T-shirt, plus the pdf of the shooting script. Naturally, you will also receive regular updates and behind-the-scenes scoop throughout the fundraising and movie making process. Available to US, Canada, Australia/New Zealand, Mexico, Brazil, and Select EU countries (Now including Norway and Switzerland! See Project Description for full list)”
22997 backers, paying $35 each = $804,895
Soundtrack
If your movie has it’s own soundtrack, you can offer both a digital MP3 download version and a CD version.
Examples:
- Zach Braff
“SOUNDTRACK AND PLAYLISTS// You’ll be the first to hear the soundtrack for “WISH I WAS HERE,” before it’s released, via a streaming link. And, I’ll create and send you a brand new playlist each week of production for your listening pleasure. ————————————————- You’ll also get our Production Diary and the script.”
6208 backers, paying $20 = $124,160
Being Named In The Credits
It doesn’t cost you much to put a name in the credits at the end of the movie, but plenty of people might be willing to pay for it. Plus, if they do, they’ll want others to know and thus become an ambassador of your movie, spreading the word among their friends.
Examples:
- Anomalisa
“See your name in lights!! For your generous contribution you will receive — On Screen Special Thanks credit and all of the above”
467 backers paying $100 = $46,700
Props From The Set
You can give away a unique prop from the movie set – this could be something like the director’s chair back, a costume, a piece of clothing one of the main characters wore in the movie – the more relevant and central the prop is to the movie, the higher the value.
Examples:
- Zach Braff
FILM SLATE//You will receive the slate we use on the film! Zach and the cast will sign the slate and shoot a video presenting it to you. You will own a part of the history of this movie
1 backer = $10,000 - Anomalisa
“An Authentic hand crafted Prop featured in Anomalisa and all of the above.”
13 backers paying $1,000 = $13,000
Personalized Recording
This works especially well if you, or one of your team members has a passionate following: offer a personalized voice or video-message.
Examples:
- Zach Braff
VOICE GREETING// Fifteen seconds of me saying whatever you want. Usually, this is where the project creator says “within good taste”. Try me. I’ll send you the MP3 file so you can use it as your outgoing voicemail, to prank call a friend, or to gently soothe yourself to sleep with my voice
69 backers, paying $250 = $17,250 - Veronica Mars
A cast member of your choice (Kristen excluded) will record up to a 15 second outgoing voicemail message for you. You can decide what the message will say within the bounds of good taste. You’ll be sent your greeting as an mp3. We’ll also provide a few standard greetings from which you can choose.
Conversation With Director/Actor/Writer
Talking with the creator or someone who is crucial to the movie can be an enticing proposition that is very easy to deliver at almost no cost, while at the same time being perceived as very valuable. You can do this via skype, phone or in person (e.g. “go for a coffee with me in New York”).
Examples:
- Anomalisa
A twenty minute Skype conversation with your choice of Dan Harmon, Dino Stamatopoulos or Duke Johnson and all previous rewards!
2 backers paying $2,500 = $5,000
DRINKING WITH DAN AND DINO!! A night of drinks and hanging out with Dan Harmon and Dino Stamatopoulos! (must be 21 or older) Includes all previous rewards! 6 backers paying $2,500 = $15,000

Set Visit
For many people visiting a movie set can be an exciting experience people are willing to pay money for, especially if there is someone who expects you and is prepared to show you around.
Example:
- Zach Braf
SET VISIT FOR TWO// Watch us film a scene, have lunch with the cast and crew, and take part in the movie making magic! Who knows, maybe you will make your own Hollywood cameo in our Production Diary! We’d like to film the movie in Los Angeles this August. You’ll have to provide your own travel and accommodation.

30 backers paying $250 = $7,500
Naming Rights for a Character
Lots of people would love to see their name in a movie, or surprise another person by naming a character after them.
Examples:
- Zach Braff
“NAME A CHARACTER// The name you choose will go to a precocious and handsome child actor character, so let’s keep it clean for the kids. I guarantee this character’s first name will be said, out loud, in the final cut. Since my international peeps can’t take the extra roles in the film, I would love to see this backer represent from across the sea. I’m looking at you Germany. I’ve imagined he’s a Klaus.”
1 backer, $7,000 - Veronica Mars
“Name a character in the movie! You will hear this character’s name said out loud at least one time in the movie. We guarantee this name will make the final cut. NOTE: we must be able to clear this name through our legal department. This is much easier if you are naming the character after yourself. It’s much trickier if you’re naming it after the person who used to beat you up in elementary school who is now a local politician in the Southern Californian setting of Veronica Mars. You will also receive two tickets to the red carpet Veronica Mars movie premiere in Los Angeles attended by the cast and creators, plus two tickets to the exclusive after-party also attended by the cast and creators. The signed movie poster, the Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack, the digital version of the movie, the T-shirt and a pdf of the shooting script are all included as well.”
3 backers, $6,500 = $19,500
Be An Actor
There are millions of people who would want to be in a movie – even if it’s just a short background appearance.
Examples:
- Zach Braff
BE AN EXTRA// Spend the day on our set, and if you want, you can also be a background actor. Even though you’ll be on a glamourous (low-budget) Hollywood film set, I’ll direct you to act as if you are just going about your daily routine. You will get to meet the actors working that day, and have lunch with the cast and crew. I can’t guarantee you show up in the final cut, but I will try my best. We’d like to shoot in Los Angeles in August. You will have to provide your own travel and accommodation in Los Angeles.
19 backers paying $2,500 = $47,500
BE A CAST MEMBER// For one of my biggest supporters, here’s one of the biggest rewards. You will be a credited as a cast member of “WISH I WAS HERE”. Visit us on our set and if you want, I’ll put you in a scene we are shooting and write a line just for you. And, we’ll give you the star treatment. Hair, makeup, wardrobe, and a space to practice your line. We’d like to shoot in August in LA, so if you would like a walk on role to complement your credit, you’ll need to be available then. You will provide your own travel and accommodation
1 backer = $10,000 - Veronica Mars
Be a featured background extra in the Veronica Mars movie. You’ll spend the day on the set. We’ll put you in the background (or foreground!) of scenes. You’ll eat lunch with the cast and crew. We’ll do our best to feature our Kickstarter extras in the scenes, but we can’t promise every extra will make the final cut. You’ll also receive the signed movie poster, the Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack, the digital version of the movie, the T-shirt and a pdf of the shooting script. NOTE: there will be days during the June/July 2013 shoot that we’ll need a hundred extras. There will be days where we’ll need five. We will do our best to accommodate our Kickstarter extras’ scheduling needs. Extras will need to provide their own travel to our set, and their own lodging and transportation. Our best guesses on filming locations include Baton Rouge, Vancouver, San Diego or Los Angeles. We won’t be able to answer definitively until we see how much money we raise.
20 backers paying $2,500 = $50,000
Bring The Movie Into Your Town
If you have a really passionate fanbase, they might want to have the movie screened in a local cinema.
Example:
- Veronica Mars
“At this price point, we will rent out a theater in your home town — or a town near you — and have a screening for up to 50 guests. We’ll do our best to schedule the screening before the theatrical release of the film. Worst case — the first week of the theatrical run. You’ll also receive the signed movie poster, the Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack, the digital download of the movie, the T-shirt and a pdf of the shooting script.”
4 backers paying $5,000 = $20,000
Producer Credit
This can make for a high reward level – there are lots of people who are willing to pay for being able to say they’re a movie producer. Notice that being included in the IMDB is another incentive for many backers, as it builds up their IMDB resume.
Examples:
- The Green Knight
“All of the above + and we will give you an associate producer credit on the film. Ever want to make a movie…now’s your chance!”
4 backers, paying $250 = $1,000
“You donate $1,000 or more to the making of The Green Knight and we will kiss you! Or better yet, we’ll make you an Executive Producer on the project. A real honest to goodness producer credit on a honest to goodness film.”
1 backer, paying $1,000 = $1,000 - Anomalisa
On Screen Executive Producer Credit, and all of the previous rewards (excludes 5,000 and 7,500 tiers)…..the puppet, the prop, the Premiere screening with the Cast and Crew, the Skype session, Studio Tour and Weeklies, the Script, the Storyboards, the DVD, the movie Poster, the Artwork, and a personalized Thank You via Twitter.
5 backers paying $10,000 = $50,000 - The Gamers: Hands of Fate
Option A: CHAMPION OF COUNTERMAY. You will receive the $500 package. You will also receive an Executive Producer credit. You will be listed as an Executive Producer in the end credits of the movie, and on IMDB. You are welcome to visit the set during filming, attend rehearsals, hang out with the cast and crew, and review cuts of the film as it progresses through post production. You will receive eight tickets to the premiere in Seattle, an invitation +4 to the wrap, and you have a standing invitation to attend any and all screenings and festival events, and accompany the director to premieres. Whatever you want—you’re an executive producer! (Transportation and lodging not included.)
1 backer = $10,000
